Free SEO AI tools in 2026 can help with many SEO tasks, from keyword ideas to AI search checks, but reliable measurement and technical auditing still need complementary free platforms. The catch is what “free” means. For keyword ideas and on-page copy, seo.ai’s free tools and Quattr’s generators work without an account. Semrush offers AI search visibility checks with no signup, and a free account for keyword research. To see whether your pages are ready for AI search, Frase’s free checkers score a page in seconds.
Three free platforms sit next to them, though none is an AI SEO tool: Google Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools, and the AIOSEO Analyzer. They provide the real search data and technical checks that AI tools can’t supply.
This guide covers eight tools and platforms, grouped by SEO task, including separate free-access routes where a vendor offers both no-signup tools and a free account. Each one lists the limits the vendor actually publishes, so you can see what free use really covers.
Last checked: November 2, 2026
Key takeaways
- Use Google Search Console for your site’s real Google query data and impressions in Google’s generative AI features.
- Use Ahrefs Free for technical audits of verified sites, with 5,000 crawl credits per project per month.
- Use seo.ai for no-signup AI keyword and on-page utilities.
- Use Frase for a free first AI-readiness or AI-visibility spot check.
- Free doesn’t mean unlimited: check each vendor’s current allowance.
How we checked: We checked free plans, limits, and features on each vendor’s official pricing, help, and product pages on November 2, 2026. This is a documentation-based comparison, not a claim that AIToolister tested every tool on a live site.
Best Free SEO AI Tools by Task

What “Free” Means Here (and Which Tools Actually Use AI)
Every recommended tool in this guide is free to use, but access varies. These labels are used consistently in the tables.
Types of free access used in this guide
- Free, no signup: you can use the tool straight from its web page without an account.
- Free tool: a free web tool that may ask for an email or contact details, or doesn’t say whether an account is needed.
- Free account / free service: ongoing access after you sign up, sometimes with site verification. It isn’t a trial that expires.
- Free plan, limited: ongoing free access with a published usage cap, such as a daily report limit.
- Open source: the code is free under its license, but hosting or data can still cost money. OpenSEO, covered below, falls here and isn’t counted as a free recommendation.
- Trial only: temporary access that expires. Tools that only offer a trial are not included.
AI-native, hybrid and conventional tools
Only some of these tools are AI-powered, so each one carries one of three labels:
- AI-native: seo.ai, Quattr and Frase. Their free tools use AI to generate, score or analyze.
- Hybrid: Semrush and Ahrefs. Both are conventional SEO platforms with some AI features, such as Semrush’s AI visibility checkers and Ahrefs’ AI Content Helper.
- Conventional: Google Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools and the AIOSEO Analyzer. None is an AI SEO tool.
They’re included because free AI tools rarely have reliable data of their own. An AI generator can suggest keywords but can’t tell you which queries already bring visitors to your site. Search Console can. The best free setup combines the two.
First-party data, third-party estimates and AI suggestions
The tools in this guide produce three different kinds of output:
- First-party measurement: Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools report what the search engines themselves recorded for your site.
- Third-party estimates: Semrush, Frase, seo.ai and other AI-visibility checkers estimate keyword volumes, traffic or visibility from their own data and tests.
- Generated suggestions: keyword ideas, titles, meta descriptions and schema drafts from AI generators.

Third-party visibility and keyword estimates are useful for direction, but they aren’t official search-engine data. Use them to form hypotheses, then check important decisions against Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools or your analytics platform.
A note on limits: when a vendor publishes no usage cap, this guide says “no limit stated.” That isn’t the same as unlimited.
Free-plan comparison
| Tool | Free access | Signup | Published limits | Type | Paid upgrade adds |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Semrush free tools | Free, no signup | No | No limit stated | Hybrid | Full toolkit |
| Semrush free account | Free plan, limited | Yes, no card | 10 reports per day across all vital tools; 1 demo project | Hybrid | Higher limits, full AI Visibility features |
| seo.ai free tools | Free, no signup | No | Search volume for up to 800 keywords at a time; rank check within the top 100 | AI-native | seo.ai platform |
| Quattr generators | Free, no signup | No (per Quattr) | No limit stated | AI-native | Quattr platform |
| Ahrefs Free (site tools) | Free account | Yes + verification | 5,000 crawl credits per project per month; reports show up to 1,000 backlinks or keywords at a time | Hybrid | Keywords Explorer, Rank Tracker, more data |
| Ahrefs Free (AI Content Helper) | Free plan, limited | Ahrefs account, no verification | 1 document a month | Hybrid | More documents |
| AIOSEO Analyzer | Free tool | Name and email | No limit stated | Conventional | AIOSEO plugin and AI tools |
| Frase free checkers | Free tool | No for the first result; email for more engines | First result without signup; no general free-use cap stated | AI-native | Frase platform |
| Google Search Console | Free service | Verified site | Your own verified sites only | Conventional | — |
| Bing Webmaster Tools | Free service | Microsoft, Google or Facebook account + verified site | No limit stated | Conventional | — |
Free AI Tools for Keyword Research
Semrush (free tools and free account)
Semrush is one product with two free routes. Its free tools page offers a keyword tool, search volume checker and keyword overview with “No sign-up required.” For more than a quick lookup, a free Semrush account gives you “10 reports per day across all vital tools” and one demo project, with no credit card, according to Semrush’s plan comparison (checked November 2, 2026).
That allowance is shared across Semrush’s main tools rather than given to each one, so it runs out quickly when you’re researching a new topic. Plan your lookups. The free account also includes only “a limited set” of AI Visibility features. Semrush doesn’t list which ones.
seo.ai free tools
seo.ai’s free tools are a collection of no-login utilities (46, by the company’s count), which it describes as “all powered by AI.” For keyword research, the useful ones are the AI keyword tool, the long-tail keyword generator, the keyword intent checker and the search volume tool. The search volume tool handles up to 800 keywords at a time.
Each tool works on its own. Nothing is saved between tools, and there’s no project to come back to, so treat them as fast utilities for one task, not a replacement for a keyword platform.
Google Search Console (not an AI tool)
For a site that already gets traffic, Search Console is the most reliable source for your own Google Search query data: it shows the actual queries your pages appear for in Google, with clicks and impressions. It doesn’t generate new keyword ideas, and it only covers sites you’ve verified. Pairing it with an AI keyword tool covers both gaps.
Ahrefs’ keyword database (Keywords Explorer) isn’t part of Ahrefs Free, so Ahrefs appears under audits and content in this guide, not here.
Free AI Tools for Content and On-Page Optimization
Quattr free AI generators
Quattr’s free AI SEO tools are four generators: titles, H1 headings, SEO-friendly URLs and meta descriptions. You enter a topic and get several options back. Quattr describes them as free AI SEO tools “with no signup” and publishes no usage limit. The tools generate copy but don’t score or optimize an existing page.
seo.ai on-page utilities
The same seo.ai toolset includes meta title and meta description generators, a topic cluster generator, an internal linking tool and a keyword stuffing checker. They’re useful for tidying individual pages, but they’re separate utilities, not a content editor that grades a full draft.
Ahrefs AI Content Helper
Ahrefs Free includes AI Content Helper, which writes and grades content against competing pages. The free allowance is one document per month, and unlike Ahrefs’ site tools, it doesn’t require site verification. That’s enough to check a key page, not to run a content program.
Whichever tool you use, check every AI-written title and meta description for accuracy and length before publishing. Generators can repeat a keyword awkwardly or promise something the page doesn’t deliver.
Free Technical SEO Audit Tools
Most of these tools are conventMost of these tools are conventional crawlers and analyzers, not AI tools. SEO workflow still needs a reliable technical audit.
Ahrefs Free (formerly Ahrefs Webmaster Tools)
Ahrefs Free is the current name for what used to be called Ahrefs Webmaster Tools. Ahrefs says it’s the same account, renamed as it grew to include Web Analytics, a social media manager and AI Content Helper. For a site you own, its site tools are the most complete free audit option in this guide. Its limits work at three different levels:
- Crawl credits: Site Audit gets 5,000 crawl credits per project each month. Only HTML pages that return a 200 status use credits, so redirects, broken URLs and non-HTML files don’t count.
- Report display: Site Explorer shows up to 1,000 backlinks or keywords at a time in a report. That caps how many rows you can see at once, not your overall usage.
- Number of sites: Ahrefs lists verified websites as “Unlimited.”
Site Audit checks for more than 170 technical and on-page issues. The catch is verification: Site Explorer, Site Audit and Web Analytics only work for sites you can prove you own.
Semrush SEO Checker and Site Audit
Semrush’s no-signup SEO Checker gives a quick health read of any site. For a fuller crawl, Site Audit is available within the free account’s shared allowance of 10 reports per day. Semrush’s plan comparison doesn’t state how many pages a free Site Audit crawls, so expect a limited crawl rather than a full-site audit.
AIOSEO Analyzer (conventional, not AI)
The AIOSEO Analyzer checks a page’s metadata, content, keywords, internal links, schema and technical SEO, and returns an audit report. It asks for a name and email, publishes no usage limit, and doesn’t describe the analyzer as AI-powered. Use it for a quick second opinion on a single page.
Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools
Both search engines offer free webmaster platforms that report indexing, crawl errors and coverage problems directly. No third-party crawler can confirm that inNo third-party crawler can confirm that information.I tools, and both require site verification. Bing’s own help center describes it as a free Bing Webmaster Tools account, which you can open with a Microsoft, Google or Facebook account.
Free AI Search Visibility Checkers
AI visibility means how often your site shows up in AI answers from ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google’s AI Overviews or Microsoft Copilot. The free options fall into three groups, and they measure different things. If you’re working on visibility itself, our guide on how to optimize for AI search covers what to change on the page.
Spot checks: Frase and Semrush
Frase’s free tools include three checks:
- GEO Score Checker: gives one page a 0–100 score. Frase describes it as an assessment of a page’s readiness to be cited, not a verified prediction of citation likelihood.
- AI Visibility Checker: tests whether ChatGPT links to your domain. Adding an email unlocks Perplexity and Gemini.
- Agent Readiness Checker: tests whether AI agents can reach and read your site.
The first GEO Score and Agent Readiness results need no signup, and Frase states no general free-use cap. Frase describes each result as a snapshot.
Semrush’s free AI tools work the same way. The AI Search Visibility Checker shows how a brand appears across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and other platforms. The AI Overviews Visibility Checker covers Google’s AI Overviews, and the AI Traffic Checker estimates a site’s traffic from AI sources. No signup is needed, and Semrush states no limit. These are one-off checks: the free Semrush account includes only a limited set of AI Visibility features, and Semrush doesn’t list which ones.

First-party search data: Google Search Console’s generative AI reports
Google added dedicated generative AI performance reports to Search Console in June 2026. As of August 31, 2026, they’re available to all websites. There are dedicated reports for Search and Discover. They show impressions: how often your URLs appeared in generative AI features on Search, such as AI Overviews and AI Mode, and in generative AI features in Discover, broken down by page, country, device (Search only) and date.
These are impression figures from Google’s own data. Clicks aren’t among the listed metrics, and the reports don’t track citations by individual answer.
AI citation reporting: Bing Webmaster Tools AI Performance
Bing’s AI Performance report, launched in public preview in February 2026, counts how often your content is cited as a source in Microsoft Copilot, Bing’s AI-generated summaries and select partner integrations. It shows total citations, the average number of cited pages, a sample of grounding queries and citation activity for each page. Among the tools covered here, it’s the most direct first-party report of AI citations, but it covers only Microsoft’s AI surfaces and was launched as a preview feature.
Can ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude Do SEO for Free?
Yes, for writing and planning tasks, but not for measurement. All three general assistants have free tiers that can help with SEO work, but none replaces a keyword database, Search Console, or a site crawler.
What their free tiers include
- ChatGPT Free: “unlimited everyday text chats,” subject to abuse-prevention safeguards, plus web search, data analysis and file and image uploads, which have their own separate usage limits. OpenAI’s FAQ lists GPT-5.6 Luna as the Free model and says ads may appear in certain countries (OpenAI).
- Gemini (no Google AI plan): “standard limits” that refresh every five hours until a weekly limit is reached, with a 32,000-token context window. Compute-heavy features such as Deep Research may be unavailable during busy periods (Google).
- Claude Free: limited usage every five hours and every week, with web search, file creation and code execution included (Anthropic).
Gemini and Claude don’t publish a fixed number of free messages, and ChatGPT’s tools have their own limits. All three say their limits can change.
What they do well
- Turning a keyword list you paste in into topic clusters.
- Drafting outlines, briefs, title tags and meta descriptions
- Writing schema markup (always validate it before publishing)
- Rewriting sections for clarity or a different search intent
Where they fall short
They don’t have reliable search volume or keyword difficulty data, and they can produce convincing but invented metrics if asked. They can’t crawl your site the way an audit tool does. The practical fix is to give them real data: export queries from Search Console or a Semrush report, then ask the assistant to analyze it. For a closer look at the two most popular assistants, see ChatGPT vs Claude and what Claude AI is good for.
OpenSEO: The Open-Source Option and What It Really Costs
OpenSEO is worth knowing about, but it isn’t a no-cost SEO platform: the software is open source, while its SEO data requires a paid DataForSEO API key. It’s an open-source SEO platform under the MIT license, covering keyword research, rank tracking, backlinks, site audits and AI visibility. It also has an MCP server that lets AI agents such as Claude Code use your SEO data directly.
You can self-host it with Docker or deploy it to your own Cloudflare account, which works on Cloudflare’s free plan. For either self-hosted setup, the project’s documentation says you need a DataForSEO API key to get SEO data, and you pay DataForSEO directly for each request. There’s also a free hosted version; a hosted subscription costs $10 a month, and OpenSEO says the hosted service makes money by adding 28% to every request it makes to DataForSEO. The software is free, but the SEO data isn’t, and self-hosting suits developers best.
A Free AI SEO Stack for a Small Website
You don’t need every tool above. Pick three or four based on where your site is now.
A new site with little or no traffic
Use seo.ai for keyword ideas and intent, Quattr for titles and meta descriptions, the AIOSEO Analyzer for a quick page audit, and Frase’s GEO Score Checker before publishing important pages. None of these needs your site to have search history.
An established site
Start with Google Search Console for real query data and Ahrefs Free for a full technical audit. Add the Semrush free account for competitor and keyword lookups within its shared allowance of 10 reports per day.
Tracking AI search visibility
Use first-party data first: Search Console’s generative AI reports for Google impressions and Bing’s AI Performance for Copilot citations. Add Frase or Semrush spot checks every month or so to see how ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini treat your brand.
When you outgrow these limits, our guides to the best AI marketing tools and AI tools for small businesses compare paid options.
FAQ
Which free AI is best for SEO?
It depends on the task. For SEO-specific AI with no signup, seo.ai’s free tools cover keywords and on-page copy, and Semrush’s free tools cover AI visibility. Frase’s free checkers are the most focused option for AI search readiness. General assistants like ChatGPT help with writing but lack SEO data.
Can ChatGPT do SEO?
ChatGPT can help with SEO tasks such as outlines, title tags, meta descriptions and schema drafts, but it can’t measure rankings, search volume or site health on its own. It works best when you give it real data, such as a Search Console export.
What is the best free SEO tool?
For a site you own, Google Search Console is the most useful free SEO tool because it shows real Google search data for your pages. It isn’t an AI tool, so most people pair it with a free AI tool for keyword ideas and content.
Can I do SEO for free?
Yes, for a small site. Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools and Ahrefs Free cover search data and technical audits at no cost, and free AI tools handle keyword ideas and on-page copy. Paid tools mainly add deeper keyword databases, competitor data and ongoing tracking.
Is there a free AI SEO audit?
Partly. Semrush’s SEO Checker gives a free audit without signup, and Ahrefs Free runs a fuller crawl for verified sites. However, both audits are conventional crawlers rather than AI tools. Frase’s free checkers use AI but assess readiness for AI search, not technical health.
Are free AI SEO tools accurate?
Free AI generators and checkers give suggestions, not measurements, so review their output before using it. Third-party keyword, traffic and visibility figures are estimates, not official search-engine data, and AI visibility checks are snapshots that can change from day to day. For your own site, Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools are the most reliable sources.
